Amir of Afghanistan, Habibullah Khan
1871-1919
Habibullah Khan became Amir of Afghanistan on the death of his father in 1901.
Amir Habibullah did much to modernise Afghanistan during his reign, founding
the first high school and first newspaper. He also introduced the first motorcar,
electricity and roads to the city of Kabul. The Amir maintained close relations
with England, and , of course, with Robert Lewis who faithfully providing
him with his favourite Flor de Cuba English Nobility cigars.
In 1919, Amir Habibullah was assassinated whilst out hunting.
