Romeo Y Julieta is the name of two brands of cigars, one of which is produced in Cuba, and the other in the Dominican Republic. First established in 1875 by Inocencio Alvarez and Manin Garcia, the brand was named after the Shakespeare play, Romeo and Juliet. During its initial inception, the brand won several awards for taste testing events that were held between the period of 1885 to 1900. This accolade is now represented by the gold medals in the logo of famous cigars like the Romeo Y Julieta No.2.
After the brand was acquired by José Rodriguez Fernandez, the former head of the Cabañas factory, the cigar brand grew exponentially in popularity. This was due to Fernandez’s constant travels to Europe and the Americas in order to promote the brand. The brand quickly became so popular with the wealthy that there was an incredible demand for personalisation of cigar bands. It is estimated that, at the peak of production, there was over 2,000 personalised cigar bands being produced for customers.
When Fernandez passed away in 1954, the brand was moved to La Romana in the Dominican Republic, where it maintains production for a global audience as a top selling global brand.
The James J Fox Romeo Y Julieta Collection
The Romeo Y Julieta collection boasts a rich, full-bodied flavour alongside earthy undertones, all with the convenience of a smoking time ranging between 20 to 60+ minutes. The Romeo Y Julieta range is also ideal for the novice cigar smoker, thanks to its light to medium strength and toke.
The Romeo Y Julieta Tubos No. 2 is a particularly popular choice amongst those who favour this brand, due to its short smoking time and low strength. It allows you to experience a unique and pleasantly mild flavour profile, which is brought about by its cedar wrapping, in addition to leather and coffee notes which evolve towards the end of the smoke into an earthy, cool finish.
One of the brand’s most arguably famous cigars is the Churchill Tubos, which was named after Winston Churchill. For those who desire a cigar with an extended smoking time, the Churchill is the ideal choice for you. Complete with wood notes to begin with, the seven-inch Vitola slowly transcends into earth tones towards the end and is complemented by a subtle, toasty finish.
As a perfect choice for a gift to someone, or as someone who wishes to sample the best that the brand has to offer, we also offer the Best of Romeo Y Julieta cigars selection box, including a Wide Churchill, a Short Churchill and a Petit Corona.
