The long awaited, and first, Irish Regional Edition Habano. A cigar I’ve personally looked forward to very much, and it has not disappointed in the least. Throughout, this fine stick had the welcome habit of possessing the dominant leather tone, that I have a long noted weakness for across the entire Cuban portfolio, yet also displayed impressive evolution for a younger smoke, that I wanted to detail in thirds;

First third – With pronounced sweetness and malt tones on the cold draw, these qualities only presented themselves further upon initial lighting. Underpinnings of earth and leather join the fray as the cigar warms up and performs, providing a tonally darker profile with a long finish.

Second third – After the fall of a relatively firm ash, and a subtle increase in intensity, the leather aspect of the cigar takes the lead, with the sweeter side only really becoming apparent on the surface. Thick, opaque smoke, and with just the right touch of resistance to provide a satisfying draw to take control of. Very much medium in body, no more, no less.

Final third – Become rather more earth heavy, and spice forward, the cigar remains leather driven until the not-so-bitter end. Subtler black pepper creeps in towards the back end of a toasty finish, alongside some minerality to accompany the leather backbone, arriving to a pleasing crescendo. A thoroughly enjoyable cigar, that I will be recommending for as long as they’re available!
