Por Larrañaga Larrañaga 47 is the latest addition to the UK Regional Edition collection. We were delighted to celebrate the launch of the Larrañaga 47 at our St James’s Sampling Lounge on Wednesday 1st November. But it wasn’t just us, 47 cigar retailers across the country held sampling events to sample the cigar for the first time. Led by Hunters and Frankau, the night started with a video message from Jemma Freeman (Executive Chairman of Hunters & Frankau) and José Antonio Cejas Diaz (Hunters & Frankau Corporate Director) introducing the Larrañaga 47.

The Por Larrañaga Larrañaga 47 or PL47 for short is a classic Julieta No.2 vitola (7” x 47 ring gauge) or otherwise known as a “Churchill” presented in an impressive unvarnished SBN wooden cabinet holding 50 cigars in four rows (13-13-13-11). A first for a UK Habanos Regional Edition. It is the 2021 release, following on from last year’s Ramon Allones Private Stock 230 (2020). Only 1500 numbered cabinets have been produced exclusively for the UK market.

Habanos Regional Editions are exclusive launches to each specific region Habanos have a distribution network. While they are made from the standard tobaccos and blends for the brands in question with no special features, they are produced in sizes not normally associated with those brands and are presented in numbered boxes.

Each Habano is dressed with a second band giving the indicating that they are Regional Editions and giving the name of the territory for which they were made. Bands for the UK/GB editions have had either Reino Unido or Gran Bretaña on the RE band.

The name Por Larrañaga which means “By Larrañaga” was first registered in Havana by Ignacio Larrañaga in 1834. This was just 24 years after the very first cigar brands were registered, and this makes Por Larrañaga the oldest brand of handmade Habanos still in production.
