London is a metropolis of constant movement, smells, and a buzzing energy. There is nothing quite like it anywhere else in the world; there is little wonder why we have made our home on St James’s Street for over two hundred years. Truly, the city is a marvel and there is almost too much to explore in one visit. But, if you do find yourself in the city for only a short time, what are the best places to visit as a modern gentleman in London?

The Gilbert Scott

Fine dining is a hallmark of London. As such, it is no doubt one of the things at the top of your agenda on a visit to the capital. With so much choice it can be difficult to decide where this experience should take place, however. Of course, fine dining should be the very best and you should seek out a premiere chef. The Gilbert Scott is run by Marcus Wareing, a two-Michelin star restauranteur and star of MasterChef.  Located in the nineteenth century St Pancras Renaissance Hotel, the experience is truly one of awe both in sight and taste.
Foie gras
On offer at this amazing location are dishes such as smoked trout, foie gras and chicken liver parfait, Grilled Aberdeen Angus sirloin and more. Truly, if you are searching for a dining experience to remember then this should be on your list of contenders!

The Shard

The Shard
One of the most stunning sights on the London skyline, in the neo-futurism style, The Shard has become one of the most memorable sights the city has to offer. The tallest building in the United Kingdom and the fourth tallest in Europe, it began construction in 2009 and was completed three years later. The View from the Shard offers one of the most breath-taking sights; the whole of London spread out before you. If you are searching for a perfect picture to sum up your visit, then it must be taken from the viewing gallery of The Shard in order to capture the true scale and scope of the city. There are several restaurants located in The Shard and so you could have the ultimate meal with a view. Or, alternatively, you could sleep in the building as it is also the location of a hotel or two. You would also be sharing the space with a digital marketing agency, solicitor’s office, and even a healthcare clinic to name but a few of The Shard residents. Safe to say, this is a prime London building for the gentleman to visit on a trip to London. Providing you are not scared of heights, of course.

Churchill War Rooms

One of the best locations for a history buff to visit is the Churchill War Rooms. As an old customer of ours, we here at JJ Fox have a soft spot for old Winston and are endlessly intrigued by his history. Especially the infamous conflict that raged from 1939 to 1945.
War Rooms Statue
The bunker is a great way to uncover the past of secrecy of the war and fear of attack that came with living in London in the 1940s. You can see for yourself the map that helped plot the trajectory of the Second World War, as well as the Telephone Room that constantly rung with intelligence and updates from the field of battle. The war rooms also house a fully interactive experience of the life of Winston Churchill. Dedicated to the ‘British Bulldog’, this section allows you to discover the intricated details of the life of the former Prime Minister. Extracts from speeches, letters, paintings by the man and other such relics are kept in the area for you to discover. We here at JJ Fox ourselves house a box of his famous cigars and even the chair he sat in whilst choosing them! Truly, if you wish to learn more about one of England’s greatest conflicts and the mastermind behind its victory then you cannot go elsewhere.
